Profession
Decoration assistants design and carry out the layout and decoration of a space in accordance with the customer’s specifications. The space may be permanent, such as a private residence, an office or a shop, or temporary, such as a shop window, a decor, etc. They work under the direction of a project manager.
With a good knowledge of decorative styles, he/she modulates colours and light to achieve the desired effect. They draw freehand sketches and produce layout plans using computer-aided design (CAD) software. He/she creates or selects the structures, volumes, materials, lighting, colours and other elements required for the project.
The job involves working both in a design office and on site. It requires close collaboration with the professionals involved in design (architects, draughtsmen, model makers, etc.) and construction (site managers, workers, etc.).
